Job Overview:

We are looking for an experienced and organized Packhouse Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our packhouse facility. The Packhouse Supervisor will be responsible for managing the sorting, grading, packing, and dispatching of produce, ensuring quality standards, and optimizing productivity. The ideal candidate should have a good understanding of agricultural products, quality control processes, and team management.

Key Responsibilities:

– Supervision of Packhouse Operations:

– Oversee all daily activities in the packhouse, including sorting, grading, packing, and labeling of agricultural produce.

– Ensure proper handling and storage of products to maintain freshness and quality.

– Manage the timely dispatch and loading of packed goods for delivery or shipment.

– Quality Control:

– Monitor the quality of incoming and outgoing produce to meet company standards and customer specifications.

– Implement and enforce quality control checks throughout the packing process to minimize waste and rejects.

– Ensure compliance with hygiene, food safety, and industry standards within the packhouse.

– Inventory and Stock Management:

– Ensure sufficient availability of packaging materials, labels, and other essential supplies.

– Keep track of inventory levels and assist in maintaining accurate stock records.

– Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for timely replenishment of materials as required.

– Process Optimization:

– Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency in the packhouse operations.

– Optimize packing techniques, equipment use, and workflow to meet production targets.

– Ensure adherence to safety protocols and minimize downtime due to equipment failure or breakdowns.

– Record Keeping and Reporting:

– Maintain accurate records of daily production, including quantity and quality of packed goods, waste, and rejects.

– Prepare reports on packhouse performance, including productivity, staffing, and issues, and present them to management.

– Ensure proper documentation of all regulatory and compliance-related activities, such as audits or inspections.

– Health and Safety Compliance:

– Enforce all health and safety regulations within the packhouse.

– Conduct regular checks on equipment and work areas to maintain a safe and hazard-free environment.

– Provide training on safety procedures and ensure all team members follow the correct protocols.

Qualifications and Skills:

– Education:

– High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in agriculture, horticulture, or food processing is a plus.

– Experience:

– 3-5 years of experience in packhouse operations or production supervision, preferably in agriculture or food processing.

– Technical Skills:

– Strong understanding of agricultural produce handling, storage, and packaging techniques.

– Knowledge of food safety standards, quality control processes, and industry best practices.

– Proficiency in managing production schedules, inventories, and documentation.

Preferred Experience:

– Experience in handling perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables, or flowers.

– Familiarity with packaging machinery and equipment.

– Understanding of export standards and compliance for agricultural products.
